Make tests and break tests of elbow flexor muscle strength.

چکیده

The purposes of this investigation were 1) to compare the forces produced by the elbow flexor muscles during make tests and break tests and 2) to determine the reliability of each of the test procedures. I used a hand-held dynamometer to perform two make tests and two break tests on 27 young women. The forces produced by the elbow flexor muscles during break tests were significantly larger than (p less than .001), albeit correlated with (r greater than .80), the forces produced during make tests. Each testing procedure was reliable (r = .909 for make tests; r = .922 for break tests). On the basis of reliability, one type of testing cannot be considered clearly superior to the other.

The Effects of Local Heating and Cooling of Arm on Maximal Isometric Force Generated by the Elbow Flexor Musculature in Male Subjects

Objectives: It is well known that neuromuscular function is temperature sensitive. Changing of muscle temperature can effect voluntary muscle contraction. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of cooling and heating on maximal isometric force generated by the elbow flexor musculature in male subjects. Methods: Forty five healthy males encompassing 3 groups participated in the ...

Neuromuscular adaptations following antagonist resisted training.

The purpose was to assess a novel form of strength training, antagonist resisted training (ART), with potential use in microgravity and athletic rehabilitation settings. ART uses the force from antagonist muscles, during cocontractions, as the source of resistance for the agonists. Strength and electromyography (EMG) measurements were recorded before and after a 6-week training program during w...

Length-specific impairment of skeletal muscle contractile function after eccentric muscle actions in man.

1. The effects of maximum voluntary eccentric muscle actions on forearm flexor strength were studied at three different elbow joint angles (0.87, 1.57 and 2.79 rad) to examine whether subsequent impairment of contractile function is muscle length-specific. 2. A bout of 70 maximum voluntary eccentric muscle actions performed with the forearm flexors elicited delayed muscle soreness, efflux of cr...

The Effects of Elbow Joint Angle Changes on Elbow Flexor and Extensor Muscle Strength and Activation

[Purpose] This research investigated the relationship between elbow joint angle and elbow flexor and extensor strength and activation, taking into consideration the length-tension tension curve of the muscle. [Subjects] There were 30 research subjects in total, 15 male and 15 female college students from Busan S University who had no functional disabilities that might affect measurement of musc...

Hand-held myometry.

In their two recent articles, Vander Ploeg et al provided information that should prove useful to clinicians who use hand held dynamometers. The reference values presented by the authors provide a much needed basis for establishing the normality of a patient's strength.' The ratios between the forces measured during make tests and break tests may, as the authors suggest, be diagnostically discr...
